Why we Love Beekeeping
Why Beekeeping? If you ever asked both of us (Caitlin & Jim) if we would be beekeeping when we left school we would have laughed, but just like that after beekeeping for a total combined 5 years experience in the industry, we have caught the bug and can no longer see any other way for our future.
Some of the Main Reasons we caught the bug of beekeeping for me is that you literally get to see every part of the process from the individual bee collecting nectar and turning it into honey, through to this honey then being harvested, extracted, packed and then sold to the consumer. I think this is what makes beekeeping unique, in the fact that you are able to create the ultimate traceability. You can guarantee how each part of the process was done to the consumer and with this becoming increasing valuable in today's market, I think that Honey could be the ultimate super food.
Another Reason for the love of beekeeping, if not the biggest reason is the bees. Simply knowing that in general this creature relies on you to survive due to diseases such as varroa and AFB etc, is gratifying in itself. It gives a feeling of doing something that is bigger than yourself. Being able to see what you do to the hives have a positive or negative effect increases the responsibility you feel to ensure the survival of the colony.
There are many other reasons why we both love beekeeping but this gives an insight into the passion we both share for not only beekeeping but the industry itself and hopefully gives you more of an insight into how we hope to make an impact.
